Thursday September 29th

We had some fun times learning about the structure of Water!  

We started off with the following Daily Questions

Then moved into some notes as well as using pop it beads to build water molecules!!

Then we built water molecules

And then we got to draw on the desks as we demonstrated how water molecules bond with each other!

Fun times guys!!  Next week we will actually play around with water to see the different properties!

Tuesday September 27th - Continue through an introduction to biologically important properties of water.

Today I printed out the Daily Questions for you so that you could spend more time reading through the section.  I really want to start modeling for you how to read through a text like this and extract information.  I am the first to admit that just looking at a whole bunch of text by itself can be overwhelming.  That's why i love me a highlighter and a pen to mark up what I am reading.  FIRST  I went through the reading with you and showed how I would have marked it up.

THEN - We went through the Daily Questions and could relate back to the reading HOW I came up with those answers:

Monday September 26th - Introduction to Properties of Water

We are starting into our first BIG unit entitled "Chemistry of life."  In order to truly understand what happens at the biological level, one must have a pretty solid grasp of basic chemistry.  Over the next month we will be focusing on the properties of water that help support life on earth, the importance of Carbon in forming biological macro molecules, and finally enzymes.  Today I had you read a couple pages out of the Keystone Finish Line book to answer the following Daily Questions:

The rest of the period you had to complete intro book work from the first section.  We will continue through this and start into some labs / demonstrations the rest of this week!!

Thursday and Friday September 22nd and 23rd - Finish up Cell Structure and Function

On Thursday we started with our normal Daily Questions  - I got to be an Aunt for the 5th time

and then we had some fun being cellular biologists!!!

Next up - You looked at a variety of different types of tissues/cells under the microscope.  After making some observations you started to put together this concept of Structure & Function going hand in hand!!

Wednesday September 21st - Cell Structure and Function Wrap Up

After expressing how much I geeked out about making "bacterial art" for you guys.....

AAAAND showing you the product of my excitement :~(

THEN we got through our daily questions (ONLY TWO?!?!?!)

The rest of the period you spent working on two wrap up work sheets.  One which was a vocab review of this entire section.

The next was an analogy about different cell parts!

Tomorrow you guys will be viewing different cells under the microscope, Friday you have your cumulative Daily Question Quiz and next week we start into Chemistry of life!!!

Tuesday September 20th - Finish Up with Organelles

We got through the last of the organelles today and will do some wrap up activities tomorrow and Thursday.  Friday we will have our final Daily Question Quiz over ALL the daily questions from this chapter!

Friday September 16th - Continue through organelles structure/function

Today we started with the following daily questions.  Looking at your directed reading and notes, the first two questions should have been relatively easy.  It was the LAST question that took some thought!!!

Then we continued through the notes about the different organelles.  We will finish these next week and have a look at different cells under the microscope!!
