Monday November 21st - Active Transport Intro

Today's daily questions led us into a discussion about ACTIVE transport.  We will work through active transport today and tomorrow and I am hoping that we can finish up this chapter next week when we get back from Thanksgiving break!!
Then into a relatively boring - but NECESSARY lecture about Active Transport:

We talked a little about the importance of the Sodium-potassium pump in nerve impulses!  Here is a video about the Sodium-Potassium pump and why it is so important!!

Thursday and Friday November 17th and 18th - Day 3 and 4 of Egg Lab

Thursday we had a couple daily questions.
After the DQs we took our eggs out of the Corn Syrup and ended up with a pretty strange looking egg!!  Since the concentration of water was higher INSIDE the cell, water moved from high to low concentration OUT of the cell causing it to deflate.

Friday was the BIG day!!  The egg was ENORMOUS and slightly bouncy!  After making your observations and collected your data you had a chance to mess around with the egg and then dispose of it as you wished.  (Which many of you made into a pretty messy situation!!!)

Here is a video that shows what was happening at the cellular level for all 4 days:

Wednesday November 16th - Egg Lab Day 2

Well..... We survived the first messy day of this lab!!!

Today involved removing the egg from the vinegar and observed that the egg gained mass and the volume of vinegar went DOWN.......

Here is a video that shows what happened specifically at the molecular Level:

And some of our class pics from today :)

And if you are now following Reed's "Book"  Here was today's page:

Monday November 14th - Passive Transport Introduction

We have  a pretty cool week ahead of us!!  We will be doing what is probably the neatest lab of the year!  We will start it tomorrow and it will run through the rest of this week.   Before we can get started on it, though, we need to get some background info.  That is what today was all about!!  Here were today's daily questions and notes:

To show you a concentration gradient, I had you drop a couple drops of food coloring into a beaker of water and we observed throughout the class period how it diffused from high to low concentration:
