TEST RETAKE and Thanksgiving fun :)

Today you walked in to my hand turkeys showing that I'm thankful for all my classes this year!!!!

I was SOOO proud of how many students showed up yesterday after school for the review session.  We went through each question on the test and I gave you  not just the "right answer" but spent time learning better skills in GETTING TO the right answer.  Hopefully this paid off for you today!

Any student who scored below an 80% took the test.  The only addition to this exam was that I asked you to tell me one thing you are thankful for!!!  I LOVED some of the hand turkeys I got from you guys!  You're never to old to draw a hand turkey :)

Then I had an extra credit assignment available to work on the rest of the period or over break.  Some of you did that, some drew even more hand turkeys ;)

I then let you watch the little Hoops and Yoyo Thanksgiving video and wished you all a nice relaxing Thanksgiving break!!

Thursday and Friday November 22nd and 23rd

Today you had time to finish up the CDT review.  Those that did not get that finished in the allotted time NEED to turn that in tomorrow (It is worth 50 points)

You then started your CDTs which you will finish on Friday.

I also gave you your tests back.  We will talk a little more about this on Monday (I will be at a meeting tomorrow out of the district).   I want to congratulate those who put a TON of effort into this chapter and had it pay off.

For those that didn't do so swell.... don't lose hope!!!  We will be having a whole class retake next Tuesday.  Study up buttercups!!!!

CDT Review

Tomorrow and Friday you will be taking the second round of CDTs.  This time around I am looking for an increase of scores in the first quadrant.
Today you used your notes/the book/or the blog to answer questions from this first quadrant.
Here are the Keystone Exam Anchors that you tore apart today.

Review for Cell membrane and Cell transport Exam

Monday November 18th
I passed back your directed reading and Daily Question Quiz.  We then went over the daily question quiz and focused on questions that seemed to be difficult for many of you.

Finally we started to review using the following Jeopardy Game.  I have included links to a couple cell membrane and cell transport review games, I also placed a "test" and "review" on study island that would be beneficial when studying for this exam.

This link is the one we went through

***NOTE:  These are not GREAT questions - many I skipped over but at least it gives you an idea :)

Here are a couple other ones you could try as well.

Active Transport and Cell Signaling

Wednesday and Thursday
November 13th and 14th
Some of you got this daily question on Wednesday, the rest got it today.  There was a LOT of information found in just this first question!!  Make sure you understand the entire concept - not just the correct answer

Example of a cell signaling process
Some of you watched the following crash course as a wrap up of this chapter - EVERYONE is expected to finish the concept map, "Quiz" and Active Transport for tomorrow.

Good Reviews of Passive Transport

If you have missed any days lately here are some good YouTube clips that describe passive transport (and active transport in the second video)

Active Transport Intro

The picture is of me floating down the river via "passive transport" on an inter tube.  If I needed to go UP stream (Against the current) it would take a lot of energy on my part. (That's me trying to swim upstream with the help of ATP)

Passive transport wrap up and book work

Monday November 11th
We started with the following daily question as a wrap up to osmosis.

after that you were in the books doing a summary of passive transport and an introduction to active transport which we will start into tomorrow.

Day 4 Egg lab

Friday November 8th

Today we took our eggs out of the water and saw that they had gained mass due to osmosis.  Water entered the egg which caused a decrease in the volume of the water in the beaker.  We did a final clean up of things and then we did the final lab wrap up.
Here were some final pics

since your egg was filled with water, it was slightly 'bouncy'

And then clean up........

Egg Lab Day 3

Today you took your very fragile egg out of the corn syrup and moved it into water.  You recorded the mass of your egg and final volume of vinegar in your notebooks and noticed that there was an increase in the volume of syrup in your beaker, but that the egg weighed less than it did yesterday.

To describe what happened between days 2 and 3 we went through the following notes.

Egg Lab day 2

No daily questions - you got RIGHT into the lab today.  You guys took your eggs out of the vinegar, weighed them, determined the final volume of vinegar left in the beaker and then spent a majority of the period getting the shell off.  Here were some pics.

Once you got most of the shell off I had you then place the egg into corn syrup and then explained what happened between yesterday and today.  You drew this diagram in your notes.

We then set up the next demonstration as you wrote the next slide.  This showed you simple diffusion in real time.
We placed two
drops of food coloring
Let it diffuse
And kept diffusing
as we wrote the next slide

Then we got to know our eggs for the egg lab!!!  Today you just weighed your egg, named it, and placed it in a beaker of vinegar.  The magic happens tonight and the fun starts tomorrow!!
Here are some of your eggs - you guys came up with some interesting names!!
