Wrap up of transcription

Wednesday April 3rd
In Eukaryotic cells, where does transcription occur? The nucleus
Where do you think it occurs in Prokaryotic cells? Well since the DNA in prokaryotic cells is found in the cytoplasm (because remember prokaryotic cells don't have a nucleus)  Transcription would occur in the Cytoplasm.
The final product of transcription is known as RNA.  There are three different types of RNA that can be made and I referred to the reading on this one.

What are three differences between DNA and RNA?  Again i referred to our reading.

In eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells the sequence of nucleotides in the DNA strands are transcribed.  Which statement best explains how transcription is similar in all organisms?
A.  Transcription occurs in the nucleus
B.  Transcription produces identical proteins
C.   All genes carry the same information for transcription
D.  Enzymes involved in mRNA assembly during transcription
Specifically the enzyme involved in transcription is known as RNA Polymerase

Next up - looking at some similarities and differences between transcription and DNA replication.....

And finally I had you write the first slide down about translation and show me your section 8.4 Instant Replay's and wrap up questions.  Tomorrow we will work through translation.
